Bringing computer vision to the masses

🦄 Unicorner Startup of the Week:

Prompt AI

✍️ Notes from the Editors

Today’s article is brought to you by Harmonic AI. Learn more about how it’s building the best search engine for up-and-coming startups.

Even though it might sound foreign to you, computer vision is more involved in your life than you’d think.

A lot of apps you use daily employ some basic level of computer vision. The photo library on iOS can identify people, plants, pets, and landmarks. Some maps can use a video of your surroundings to identify where you are. The list goes on.

But Prompt AI is taking it to another level. Its team of Berkeley PhDs is building the next generation of AI-powered image search and categorization of your photos, all while prioritizing privacy.

Talk about a stacked founding team.

Long before AI was booming, Prompt AI’s founding team was pushing the boundaries of AI in Prof. Trevor Darrell’s lab at UC Berkeley. This is where the team met while working on their respective research projects. CEO Tete Xiao worked with Segment Anything at Meta and humanoid robotics, CTO Seth Park’s work encompasses generative models, and COO Marissa Ramirez de Chanlatte works with 3D geometry and 3D vision.

In a sea of AI founders, we can’t think of a team that better demonstrates founder-market fit.

🔮 Our Analysis

Despite there being a ton of image and language data everywhere in our lives, we have still yet to see language and vision come together in a meaningful way. Prompt AI’s impressive team has a vision (pun completely intended) to change that by bringing AI vision solutions to the masses. In theory, the team can actualize this mission, given its significant experience with combining vision and language in the lab. In practice, the team has demonstrated an ability to do this with Prompt Photos, its debut product that sees it bringing AI to personal photos. This feat is also an impressive accomplishment for the company because it has accomplished lightning-fast searches through existing photos in an efficient way—it’s solving a core challenge that will have to be overcome to enable real-time vision use cases. With continued development and growth, Prompt AI has the potential to become a leader in AI.
